Photos taken 150 years ago the American West
Having documented the American Civil War (1861-1865), photographer Timothy H. O'Sullivan started a journey to the west, and came back with some priceless pictures, probably the first photos of the legendary "Wild West" American.
O'Sullivan's Journey to the West is part of a series of expeditions funded by the U.S. government, which took place from 1867 to 1869. These expeditions took part scientists, soldiers, artists and photographers who had the common task to discover ways in which they could be used with natural resources. O'Sullivan's contribution was to photograph the enormity of this land.
În imaginile sale apar nativi americani, dar și colonizatori de-abia ajunși acolo, dar care deja își lăsau amprenta asupra regiunii. Dar mai mult decât orice, O’Sullivan a reușit să imortalizeze în fotografiile sale frumusețea vestului american de la mijlocul secolului XIX.
